Baalbek - in the Bekaa Valley from where Syria can be seen - is the location of extensive Roman ruins and temples. Note
the stunning backdrop of snow-covered mountains.
In Baalbek - and almost everywhere else in Lebanon - you can choose the part of sheep you would like to eat, you
can even cut it yourself, the butcher will then prepare it for you and you can take it, for example, to a bakery to be baked
into a little pasty. Not a bad picture for a long-time vegetarian!
Snow is only 1/2 hour drive away from the sea - it's a steep climb into the mountains! Here Nizar and I are happy playing
in the snow.

Byblos on the coast with its castle ruins and tranquil feel - the first city where town and country planning was implemented,
and also gave the Bible its name.
Baalbek was also the site of my first camel ride - no desert around and it was definitely touristy, but an adventure
nevertheless!
A favourite game is to build a snowman on your car and then try to get back down to the coast before it melts in the
rapidly increasing temperatures. This one didn't make it because it fell off :-(
The souk in Tripoli where you can get just about anything, from spices to kitschy touristy things, to clothes, to food,
to gold and jewelry.

A little castle on an isolated bluff amongst olive groves in a narrow valley - it doesn't get much more picturesque....
